MAM Donates Mural to Children's Hospital of Michigan
Eighteen MAM artists contributed to this beautiful collective mosaic
donated to Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. Each artist created an 11-inch square mosaic from a
design selected from over 100 drawings submitted in a contest by
elementary students in the Lake Orion school district.
To complement the
train theme on the pre-op floor, children were asked to create a drawing
based on the short poem
"Sitting
on a train, Happy as can be, Looking out a window, What do I see?"
Artists then chose their designs from the children's colorful
landscapes, seascapes, skylines, farmyards, fields, and deserts, and
many other interpretations. A muralist painted the wall with a train
scene where the mosaics are installed as three large paned windows of
the train.
The mural was donated in June, 2008.
